| Clearly, revising the County General Plan is a daunting challenge. Much of the content is highly technical, fraught with jargon. But the Board of Supervisors and the Department of Planning and Land Use staff know that without involving the community, the result of their efforts will not get public support. Without public support, the plan will not serve its purpose and fail. Community planning is the mechanism which allows the public to get involved and make a difference in the General Plan Update.
Here are some ideas for how Valley Center residents can become involved in community planning:
- Use the links on this webpage to learn more about community planning, GPU and the Community Plan.
- Attend a Valley Center Community Planning Group meeting. The VCCPG meets on the second Monday of each month at the Community Hall at 7:00 pm. The agenda is printed in the Valley Roadrunner and is available on its website: http://valleycenter.com
- The General Plan Update Subcommittee makes recommendations to the Valley Center Community Planning Group. It focuses on the specifics of the GPU and its impact on Valley Center. The subcommittee is also working on Valley Center’s Community Plan, a part of the General Plan. The subcommittee meets the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Library at 6:30 pm. For more information, call Rich Rudolf at 749-0662.
- Read the portion(s) of the DIER that interest you. Work with others to develop a comment (a recommendation) on the DIER. Submit your comment to the DPLU. See http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/dplu/gpupdate
/docs/drafteir/comments.pdf for more information.
Note: If you’ve read this far, you are a certified policy wonk, you’re being paid to read this, or you care enough about your community to invest some of your time. In any case, please join in the community planning process. Valley Center will be a better place as a result of your involvement. |
