GPU Current Status
In November 2008, the County published the Draft General Plan. The plan is described as based on a set of guiding principles designed to protect the County’s unique and diverse natural resources and maintain the character of its rural and semi-rural communities. It reflects an environmentally sustainable approach to planning that balances the need for adequate infrastructure, housing, and economic vitality, while maintaining and preserving each unique community within the County, agricultural areas, and extensive open space areas within the County.

A requirement of most governmental actions, like the adoption of a new General Plan, is the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR). When completed, it provides a clear picture of the impact of the action (and of alternatives) on our air, water, and other environment resources. Decision-makers, in this case the BOS, will use this report as they consider which land use map alternative to adopt. The BOS may choose to adopt portions of several alternative maps. The EIR for the GPU is not ready yet.

However, in July 2009, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIR) for the GPU was released for public review. Comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIR) for the GPU will be accepted through August 31, 2009. Each comment will receive a response from the County. The comments and responses will be included in the final Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
